To run the core features of the app: showing your catches and profile to other anglers (according to the visibility you choose — public, anonymous, or private), powering the map and species filters, enforcing basic moderation (hiding catches that repeated users report), and letting you manage your own account and posts.
We do not sell your personal data.
You control who can see each catch you post: Public (your name shown, visible to everyone), Anonymous (your name hidden, still visible to everyone), or Private (visible only to you). Anonymous and private catches are never shown on your public profile. If you'd rather use FishSpots purely as a personal fishing log, you're welcome to keep every catch Private and never share anything — the app works fully that way.
FishSpots shows ads served by Google AdSense to help cover running costs. Depending on your location and choices, this may involve cookies or similar technology used for basic ad delivery and, if you consent, ad personalization. If you're in the EU/EEA or UK, you'll be shown a consent notice before any such cookies are set, where you can accept or decline personalization.
You can view, edit, or delete your own catches and profile information directly in the app at any time. To request a full copy or deletion of your account data, email privacy@fish-spots.com. If you're in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR including access, correction, deletion, and objection to processing.
We keep your account and catch data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we'll remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep it longer by law.
